Where do you go when you need to know?
Most of us go straight up into the head. More analysis. One more opinion. As if clarity is something we can think our way into.
Recently, I wrote about the three voices inside every decision.
The head, which tells you what’s true.
The heart, which tells you what matters.
The body, which tells you what’s real.
The body was the one I learned last. And it’s still the hardest to access on purpose.
Because you can’t think your way in. In fact, thinking is often the move that keeps you out.
So let me show you where I actually go...
Up and Out vs. Down and In
Notice where your place most of your attention.
Mine spends most of the day up and out. Up in my head. Out scanning the room.
Do you need something?
Is the project on track?
Am I doing enough?
Up and out built my business. It’s where I solve problems, anticipate needs, and stay three steps ahead. There are gifts there.
But I can’t hear myself very well from that place.
And when a decision really matters, that’s my signal to go the other way.
Down and in.
Down out of the noise in my head. In toward my center of gravity.
When I drop my attention there, my pulse slows. The scanning quiets. I’m suddenly moving at a different tempo.
This is where discernment comes from.
Up and out helps me read the room.
Down and in helps me read myself.
It also happens to be where I make my truest calls.
Inside this week’s Ritual, I’ll share the shift that finally helped me access my body’s wisdom on purpose.
It runs opposite to everything that built my career.
And it takes about a minute.
